Over 32,600 local families helped
through North Enfield Foodbank,
as it celebrates 6 years in the Borough

PRESS RELEASE | 14.09.18

On Thursday 13th September, a host of special guests including the Mayor of Enfield Cllr Saray Karakus, Joan Ryan MP and other local dignitaries came together to mark 6 years of North Enfield Foodbank.

Hosted at Jubilee Central by Jubilee Church London, where the Enfield Foodbank is run throughout the week, the evening was an opportunity to recognise the important role the Foodbank plays within the Enfield community - providing vital emergency support to families since 2012, with 6 times more clients visiting the Foodbank in

Throughout the evening guests were informed about other initiatives that are launching this Autumn through Jubilee Church and through the Enfield Foodbank, to address pressing needs in the community as highlighted through Foodbank clients.

These services include; Enfield Community Money Advice, Jubilee English Language School, Eat Well Spend Less cooking classes, the School Uniform Scheme, Befriends elderly support service, School Mentoring and Free Christmas Lunches for the homeless and displaced in Enfield.

David Pask, the Pastor who leads these initiatives at Jubilee Church reflected on the evening , saying “Tonight was a great opportunity to celebrate the great work that has been achieved through the many volunteers at the Foodbank over the last 6 years.

Although we wish there wasn’t any need for these types of services, it’s important that with the rise of debt, as well as other social factors affecting people’s ability to provide food for themselves and their families, that Foodbanks can be run locally to support people in food crisis.

The launch of our other initiatives is directly linked to needs of people that we have identified through speaking to Foodbank clients over the past 6 years. We want to help empower people and provide them with the support they need, in order to be able to secure a stable and better standard of living for themselves and their families.”

Commenting on the 6th anniversary celebrations of the North Enfield Foodbank, Joan Ryan MP said: "I pay tribute to the staff and volunteers of the North Enfield Foodbank who, for the past 6 years, have provided such a valuable service to many hardworking, local families who are struggling to put food on the table.

It’s an absolute scandal that in this day and age people in Enfield have to rely on foodbanks, but sadly 34,000 children in our Borough live below the poverty line and almost 4 in 10 local people in work earn less than they need to live on.

The North Enfield Foodbank continues to do vital work and I ask you to support their services by visiting: www.northenfield.foodbank.org.uk or calling: 07826 542119.”

By holding this event Jubilee Church hope to encourage more referrals from their referral network within the Borough, hoping that by increasing the awareness of their initiatives, they will be able to continue to make a difference to thousands more families within Enfield in the future.
